Riverside Congregational Church, UCC welcomed the Reverend Bob Nolan to their pulpit as supply in July 2021 and as settled pastor in July 2023. Bob began his seminary studies in 2013 at Andover Newton Theological School, completing in 2016. He was named Associate Pastor at Woodridge Congregational Church in 2016, serving until 2018. Before accepting settled pastoral duties at Hope and Riverside Churches, he served as pulpit supply at the Edgewood and Peace Dale Congregational Churches. Rev. Bob was born in Syracuse, NY and spent the first half of his life in central NY State, moving to RI in 1986. He and his wife, Sandra reside in Warwick. Together they have a blended family of five children living in RI and two living in Arizona and have eight grandchildren in total.
Rev. Bob brings an abundance of experience with him prior to working at Riverside: as the Chaplaincy Center’s Co-Director in Providence, and as an Associate Pastor at Woodridge Congregational Church in Cranston. Rev. Nolan has also worked with homeless men at Harrington Hall in Cranston. He brings over fifty years’ experience as a music minister in a variety of settings. Among Rev. Bob's strengths are organizing special services and leading bible study groups. As the settled pastor, Rev Bob visits all in nursing care. (removed list of facilities)
In our UCC conference, the Southern New England United Church of Christ, Rev. Bob volunteers as Executive VP & acting President of the RI Association of the SNEUCC (a sub part of the conference). He also serves as community minister to the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, as well as an associate member of the Poor People's Campaign of RI. He believes that involvement in our community matters and having a seat at the table is essential. Rev. Bob attends various educational opportunities offered by the SNEUCC, including the annual Super Saturday Event, recently held in Southbridge, MA, and the annual conference meeting being held at the UMass Amherst campus.
Our Church leadership is provided by a Ministry Team composed of members representing each of the core ministries of the church. Members are elected to 3-year terms with one year off required before being eligible for election to the term again. Each Ministry Team member gathers like-inspired persons to join them in the work of the core ministry they represent. People who serve in individual core ministries are not elected and serve so long as they are inspired to do so.
The Ministry Team exists to help church members pursue their calling, offering encouragement, guidance, and resources. The Ministry Team seeks always to be responsive to the Holy Spirit and partner with fellow members as they seek to follow Christ. The Ministry Team supports each other, the Pastor, members, and friends of the church to promote and discuss the life and welfare of the Church.
